Investing in gold, silver or diamonds is becoming even more accessible. Mennica Skarbowa, in cooperation with PayPo, has launched the “PayU Płacę Później” (“PayU Pay Later”) service, introducing the option to defer payment for purchases by 30 days, or even up to 9 instalments. This solution is particularly important for those who would like to take advantage of a favorable market moment and invest in valuable assets, but do not have the full amount at their disposal at the moment or plan to spread their expenses over time without incurring additional costs. This offer also addresses the needs of individuals at the beginning of their gold investment journey, providing the opportunity to purchase small gold quantities that are convenient to store, easy to resell globally, and may serve as a practical asset in times of economic uncertainty. In the Company’s view, this new model of offering investment products is expected to broaden its customer base by attracting individuals who have not previously invested in gold.
Precious metals have long been considered a safe haven for capital – particularly in times of economic uncertainty. The price of gold remains high, currently at 3,345 USD per ounce. At the same time, interest in gold continues to grow at the state level – Central Bank of the Republic of Poland (Narodowy Bank Polski) has increased its gold reserves to over 500 tons, strengthening the country’s position among the world’s largest gold holders. Mennica Skarbowa has also seen strong demand for this metal – February 2024 delivered the Company’s best results in two years.
Until now, one of the main barriers for many potential gold investors has been the need to commit a substantial amount of capital upfront. A new solution introduced by Mennica Skarbowa, in cooperation with PayPo, through the “PayU Płacę Później” (“PayU Pay Later”) service, removes this obstacle. Customers can now purchase precious metals worth up to 6,000 PLN with the option to defer payment for up to 30 days. This form of financing involves no additional cost – provided the amount is paid on time. As a result, investors gain flexibility in managing their household budgets without missing out on investment opportunities.
– The implemented payment solution is primarily aimed at individuals who want to respond quickly and responsibly to changing market conditions but may not always have the full amount available for investment. The option to defer payment makes investing in precious metals accessible to those who, until now, were unable to do so for financial reasons. Smaller weight denominations are available for purchase, allowing investors to gradually build their portfolios without placing undue strain on their budgets – says Adam Stroniawski, Managing Director of Sales at Mennica Skarbowa and adds: With the PayPo service, investing becomes more accessible without compromising the security and transparency of transactions. The purchase process using the “Pay Later” option is simple and intuitive. Customers only need to select PayU as the payment method during checkout on the online store and then choose the “Pay Later” option. The entire process is conducted online, without unnecessary paperwork. We believe that this new form of offering investment products will help expand our customer base to include individuals who have not yet invested in gold.
In the first quarter of 2025, gold prices in Central and Eastern Europe rose by as much as 27% compared to the same period of the previous year. Increasing economic and geopolitical uncertainty, along with a strong upward trend on global markets, contributed to a significant rebound in demand for physical investment gold – also in Poland. Mennica Skarbowa, the country’s largest independent distributor of precious metals, recorded approximately a 50% year-on-year increase in sales, having sold nearly 700 kilograms of investment gold. According to the Company’s Management Board, Polish investors may break a new record this year, potentially purchasing over 20 tonnes of gold products. For comparison, in the entire year of 2024, Mennica Skarbowa sold 2.8 tonnes of gold. Polish investors most often chose popular bullion coins, valued for their recognizability and ease of resale. The most popular bullion coins were the Vienna Philharmonic, Canadian Maple Leaf, Australian Kangaroo, American Eagle, and Krugerrand.
